Live Well aims to support all communities by ensuring great everyday support is available across all neighbourhoods.
Live Well is a partnership across Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Greater Manchester Integrated Care (NHS GM), the Greater Manchester voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector (VCFSE) sector, the 10 local authorities and communities across Greater Manchester.
In 2023, with generous support from The National Lottery Community Fund, the Live Well programme was launched, enabling five accelerator sites to lead work to tackle persistent barriers to Live Well. They are part of a growing movement for community-led health and wellbeing, connecting and amplifying existing, brilliant support in GM’s communities.
Live Well Accelerator Sites:
Each site is supported through a series of coaching and peer-support learning spaces, to identify and develop their approach to Live Well. These include:
Live Well has been Andy Burnham’s, Mayor of Greater Manchester, consistent manifesto commitment, setting out Live Well as a key part of Greater Manchester’s response to tackling health, social and economic inequalities in neighbourhoods.
Over the past year, Live Well’s strategic remit has expanded, and it has grown to become Greater Manchester’s catalyst for delivering long held prevention and reform ambitions. Live Well will bring about a radical shift in public service delivery at a neighbourhood level, underpinned by transformational and new ways of working between and across the statutory sector, VCFSE sector, and communities.
Achieving Greater Manchester’s Live Well ambition will focus on four key components:
Live Well Centres, Spaces and Offers, connecting brilliant everyday support. Supported by
Vibrant and resilient VCFSE organisations and communities, resourced to respond at scale. Embedded within
An optimum neighbourhood model working alongside people and communities. Underpinned by
A culture of prevention.
GoodLives GM contributes
Since 2021, GLGM have been working as a core partner to Live Well, initially leading on a co-design process with VCFSE, statutory partners and communities to surface persistent barriers to community-led health and wellbeing which informed the design of the TNLCF-funded programme.
Building on these insights, GLGM have been working as the learning partner on the programme, supporting GMCA, GMIC and the five cross-sector locality teams, and surfacing and connecting insights from the work to support the strategic expansion of Live Well. This includes the latest Year 1 Learning report on fostering equal VCFSE and statutory partnerships.
Our work in this programme is underpinned and guided by the Live Well learning framework, which has built the foundation for GM’s Live Well ambition and strategy. The framework points towards the type of enabling system environments needed to grow community action, power and wealth to tackle health, social and economic inequalities.
As part of the growing Live Well movement, we also work closely with system and sector leaders to steer the strategic direction of GM Live Well and define a Live Well approach in their policy areas:
